The "Superteams" for the U13s took place on Saturday 9th May. This took the form of 4 athletes, boys and girls teams competing over 4 events, 800m, long-jump, turbo javelin, and 4x100m. A total of 20 boys teams and 26 girls teams took part, with 2 boys and girls teams representing Law & District. The Boys ‘A' team of Darren Daly, Rory McLaughlin, Connor Thomson and Evan Jones won Silver medals earning 200 points and the Girls' ‘A' team of Pamela McNicol, Heather Baird, Anya Towers and Nadene Traynor won Bronze with 161 points, ‘B' boys, Stephen Murphy, Euan Robb, Bradley Cross & Stewart Slamin came 10th (149 points) and ‘B' girls, Christina Murray, Kristen Cowe, Aimee Coutts & Megan Warnock came 20th (106 points). The youngsters had a fabulous day albeit with atrocious wet and windy conditions, they all put in some very good performances and represented the club admirably, which resulted in Law being the only club to medal in both the boys and girls events.
The new Scottish U15/U17 ‘Closed' Championships also took place on 9th May again at Wishaw Track. Nine of our athletes took part, with brave competing by them all considering the diar weather. In the U17 womens' 100m final Laura Livesey, Chelcie Dalziel and Lynn Livesey came 4th, 5th and 6th respectively, with Laura also coming 4th in the 200m final. Julie Dobbin came 4th in U17 300m in a PB time of 44.03secs, Emily Meek also with a PB and 4th place in U17 Javelin 29.71mtrs. In the U17 1500m, Craig Wellcoat came 4th (4.11.60), Jonathan Velu 8th in U17 800m, (2.05.80) heat time, also in 800m Ross Hill U15 4th (2.12.19), Jamie Cubis completed the competitors for the club in the U15 Javelin, into 4th place with a PB throw of 20.11mtrs. On Sunday 10th May it was the senior athletes competing at Wishaw in the new Inter-Regional Championships, with 6 regions fighting it out for the inaugural ‘ Innes' Trophy. Law & District were one of the 32 West Coast clubs, therefore selection to the team would be very competitive with only 2 athletes per discipline, however, a few of our athletes were successfully selected to Team West Coast. When all the regional teams where announced, we were delighted to read that 2 of our consistently hard-working U20 athletes had received Guest places in the event, where they both proudly took their well-deserved positions on the track. Gary Grieve executed his run superbly which resulted in a PB 4.03.37mins in the ‘B' 1500m and Kirstie McLeod in her first year U20 ran very well in the ‘B' 100m coming 5th in 13.60secs and 5th also in ‘B' 200m in 28.15. Team West Coast went on to win the trophy and all our athletes thoroughly enjoyed their experience and participation in this highly competitive event. CSSAL & SYAL
