Many athletes from Law & District AAC have been very busy over the last few weeks competing at various Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow. The ‘Closed' Scottish Indoor Championships for U15/U17 athletes was the first event over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday 16th & 17th January. Six youngsters competed, with the best two performances being achieved by Alice McGrath, narrowly missing out on a medal when she came 4th in U15 800m in 2.32.13mins. and Ross Hill in his first year at U17, also in the 800m coming home in 5th place in 2.10.53mins. Julie Dobbin in U17 300m 3rd in heat 3 45.37secs, Kevin McGhee U17 60m 8.03secs and a jump of 5.28mtrs in the Long Jump, with Thomas Baxter competing in both the U15 60m, 8.51secs and 200m 27.79secs. Lewis Nicholson completed the line up for the club with two performances in U17 Shot Putt 11.12mtrs and 200m, 25.64secs, although he was in his Glasgow School of Sport colours for the day. The Inaugral Inter-regional Indoor Championships took place on Sunday 17th January also at the Kelvin Hall. Law & District were delighted to have 5 of their senior athletes selected to represent Scotland West Coast Team, to compete alongside 4 other regions, Glasgow City, Tayside & Fife, Central&East, and Grampian. Gary Grieve U23, from Carluke competed in the ‘A' 800m, coming 4th in an excellent new PB time of 1.55.74, Twin sisters Laura and Lynn Livesey, from Wishaw both came 2nd in their respective ‘A' & ‘B' 60m races in identical times of 8.31secs, both 1st year U20 athletes, Kirstie McLeod U20, from Lesmahagow came 3rd in ‘B' 200m in 28.45secs, with David Martin U23, from Motherwell came 2nd in ‘A' Long Jump, 6.91mtrs. The competition ended explosively with highly fought out relay medleys 2x200m & 2x400m in both male and female categories, Lynn Livesey and Kirstie McLeod running a 200m leg respectively. The Glasgow City Cup stood between the final relay positions, which unfortunately for West Coast and 1 point, the cup and the title went to a triumphant Tayside and Fife. All the athletes from Law & District had a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of competing in a highly contested event and were all extremely proud to represent their West Coast Team, which they all did so very welll.
