ANNAN RIVER RACES REPORT 7TH MARCH 2010

The Annan River Races, one of the favourite annual competitions for many athletes from Law & District AAC, was again their destination on Sunday 7th March. Not surprisingly, the rewards were many with many youngsters returning with individual medals and team medals galore.
One of our youngest competitors, Cormack King won the Gold medal in the U9 boys' race in 3.30minutes and in the U9 girls' race Caitlin Donnelly and Pamela Newell finished in 7th and 14th place respectively. In U11 Richard Watson came 4th, Stephen Kelman 8th with Kieran Cubis completing the trio into 11th place, giving them Team Gold for their efforts. Under 11 girls' team took the Gold Medals for their strong performances, Reagan Binnie also taking individual Silver in a time of 6.40 minutes, Emily McNicol 4th, Lucy Cairns 8th, Hannah Cussick 9th, Julie Wight 18th, with Evie Robb, Claire Cartledge, Sammy Marshall and Kayleigh Marshall completing the U11 girls race.
Both Under 13 boys and girls teams won Team Gold, with a Bronze medal going to Rory McLaughlan for a strong run of 9.27 minutes, Evan Jones came 5th, Lewis Donnelly 7th, Stephen Murphy 8th and Robert McGrath. Pamela McNicol added a Bronze Medal to her Gold team medal with a very good run of 10.32 minutes, with Nadene Traynor 5th, Heather Baird 7th, Megan Somerville 10th, Morven King 11th and Margaret Newell 12th.
A Gold team medal and an individual Gold medal went to Stewart McLuckie with his excellent 11.17 minutes performance in the U15 race, just edging out team mate, Ross Hill to 2nd place and a silver medal to add to his team gold, Calum Lindsay 5th and Steven Bryce 8th completed the quartet. In the U15 girls' race Sherelle Graham just missed out on a medal when she came 4th in 14.22 minutes, Shona Campbell and Alice McGrath coming home in 8th and 9th place respectively.
Fine performances from the U17 boys saw them winning the Team Gold medals, with all three of the individual medals going to Craig Wellcoat, 1st in 27.00 minutes, Daniel Graham, 2nd 28.05 minutes and Christopher Watson 3rd in 29.00 minutes with Dougie Frame in 4th place.
In the Senior Womens' race Alison Cameron finished in 7th, Margaret Mary Murphy 9th with Nicola Lindsay completing the trio. Pat Kelly came 1st in the Over 60 race, followed by William Drysdale, while Ian McLuckie came 6th and Jim Wellcoat 15th in the Senior/Masters race
