Lanarkshire Road Relays, Saturday 20 OctoberThe Lanarkshire Road Relays were held round the Loch at Drumpellier Park, on a fine dry autumn Saturday.
The Under 11 boys race was the first of the day and Law had a winner in Luke Foss.Luke won the race well and was ably backed up by Marco Nicholson who finished 13th in his first race for Law & District. A certain team medal was denied by injury to Jay Cowan who was forced to drop out while near the front of the field.
The under 13 boys team was led off by Jamie Cubis, another debutant, who ran a good race to finish 6th and hand to Ryan Fernon, who in his first race held on to 6th place and let Calum Lindsay away to battle round the course. Calum ran the fastest time of the Law boys but could not make up any places, the team completing in 6th place.
The Under 15 boys team of Craig Wellcoat, Thomas Lafferty and Jonathan Velu gave Law’s best display on the day. Craig finished first in the first leg, handing to Thomas. Thomas, a top class javelin thrower, jumper and hurdler, showed that distance running holds no fears for him by running a fast time to hand to Jonathan in 2nd place. Well though Jonathan ran, he could not make up the deficit, but pulled clear of the 3rd placed team to secure the team silver medal.
Julie Dobbin was invited to join another team to help complete their team. Julie provided a huge boost for the team and being an under 15 in the under 17 age group, she made up many places to bring them into home in 6th place.
Well done Julie and all who ran on the day.

Nationals Press Report
by Elizabeth McLeod
Law & District athletes had an excellent weekend at the U13, U15 and U17 National Championships at Grangemouth Stadium on 18th/19th August. They claimed two National titles, 1 silver medal, 1 bronze medal and displayed some excellent performances and PBs.
The star performer for the club was U15 sprinter Laura Livesey, the current U15 Scottish Schools 100m champion with outstanding performances in the 100m and 200m. In the 100m she ran a superb final, when even the time of 12.85sec. could not separate the two winners, the photo finish experts were called and Laura was awarded the Silver Medal. Not letting her disappointment stand in the way of success, Laura then executed the performance of the day in the 200m. In her 6th race of the day she lined up against the U15 Scottish Schools 200m champion. With an excellent display of class sprinting and sheer determination she won the race in 26.71sec. earning her the well deserved National 200m Title, having coming so close to the sprint double.
In the U13 800m Ross Hill claimed the Gold Medal and Title with a brilliant run in 2.21.15 mins.
Another excellent performance came from Lynn Livesey when she won the Bronze Medal also in the U15 100m in 13.11sec. and reached the semi-final of the 200m. Chelcie Dalziel had a great day with fine runs in the U15 100m final and 200m semi-final. The final member of the U15 relay quartet, Abby Currie reached the semi-final of the 100m, competing in the Long-Jump also. U17 Fiona Parkin competed in the 300m hurdles and Long-Jump and Ashleigh Anderson braved the terrible weather conditions of Saturday when she competed in U13 Long-Jump, 100m and 200m.
Also in U13 age-group, Alice Fingland put on a fine display of sprint hurdling in a time of 13.55sec. Law’s only female representative in the throws was Kirstie McLeod. Despite being disappointed not competing in the sprints due to a hamstring injury, she channelled her frustration and energy into 2 new PBs with excellent throws in the U17 Discuss 21.54m and 8.47m Shot-Putt gaining 4th & 6th place respectively.
The club’s male competitors put on some fine performances with Alan Robb reaching the final of the U17 100m and a strong run in the 200m. Thomas Lafferty excelled in the U15 Javelin with a brilliant PB throw of 34.99m, Triple-Jump 9.80m, a PB 400m run 59.20sec. into 6th place in all 3 events. In the U15 800m final PBs were achieved by Craig Wellcoat who finished 4th 2.09.07mins. and Jonathan Velu 5th 2.10.45mins in a fine display of running. Scott Murray also competed in the U15 800m and Long-Jump, while his brother Andrew displayed his versatility competing in the U17 200m and 1500m. Three U17 team-mates battled it out in the 800m with Josh Ellwood finishing in 2.07.24mins., Bobby Hill in 2.07.57mins. and Ross MacDonald 2.20.56mins.
