Law & District AAC was formed in 1967 by some of the locals in Law Village as there was no athletics for the children once they had left the local Boys Brigade. At the time they had to travel to the local YMCA, the closest being at Motherwell, if they wished to continue in athletics. With transport being very difficult in those early days, some of the parents got together and decided that the village should have its own athletics club. A meeting was held in the village hall where a large number of locals turned out to discuss the idea. It was unanimously decided that an athletics club should be formed and as a result the first committee was elected.
Today our main training base is Wishaw Sports Centre which boasts a floodlit, synthetic surface championship standard track, complete with high jump fan and throwing cage and areas. Suited for national standard competition together with club activities. It includes an 8-lane 400m all-weather track.
Law & District AAC is a competitive club. We participate in a number of leagues throughout the summer and winter seasons. We aim to coach all our young athletes to a standard that enables them to compete confidently at league meetings and, where appropriate, at district and national competitions.

Athletes in the U13 and younger age groups should expect to begin in a multi-discipline training group. This will give them the best all round introduction to athletics and allow them to develop skills and techniques in a range of events at a pace appropriate to their level of ability.
Athletes in and above the U15 age group will be placed in a training group that best suits their ability, with coaching tailored to a particular event or range of events as appropriate to the athlete's needs.
South Lanarkshire Council operates an athletics partnership involving clubs within the authority area. Those athletes at U15 and over who satisfy the selection criteria may be invited to join the South Lanarkshire Athletics Squad and will have the opportunity to participate in additional training days and competitions.
Scottish Athletics have established regional squads for a number of events/disciplines. A few of our athletes will achieve the standard required to be selected for these squads and will benefit from specialist coaching and mentoring.
